As the holiday season approaches, we are all bound to attend more impromptu gatherings - which presents us with the opportunity to network! It may seem intimidating, but networking is so important for your career.
I wanted to share a few tips from an article I located that featured Nancy Schess of Gotham City Networking:
- Have an Opener. Know what you want to say after you introduce yourself. Find a good, comfortable conversation starter. Instead of telling someone about yourself, ask questions that help you get to know the person you're talking to.
- Forget a Name? It's okay! Don't be afraid to own it and say, "I remember meeting you, but please help me recall your name." Most people won't be insulted, as long as you acknowledge you remember them.
- Follow Up. Failing to follow-up with a new connection can be fatal to the relationship! After an event, sit down and decide which method of follow-up is appropriate. It could be as simple as an email or connecting on LinkedIn.
Looking ahead, we are hosting the perfect event for networking and learning more about other members of our chapter in January. Did I mention that it's FREE? I can't wait to network with each of you in upcoming months!
