General Responsibilities: Provide leadership and direction to the Chapter. Prepare for the Presidency by participating in board meetings, familiarizing oneself with the operating structure of the Chapter and assisting the President.
Bio: Shannon is an Ergonomics Trainer/Consultant and owner of Desktop Ergonomics, helping employers ensure a healthy office environment by providing ergonomic workstation assessments, employee and supervisor training, and product recommendation. Shannon is also a Training and Documentation Specialist for Computing Services Network at University of Nebraska Central Administration. Shannon has a master's degree in Leadership Education and is a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS).
Shannon has been a member of ASTD-Lincoln for six years and this is her fifth year serving on the Board.
General Responsibilities: Provide leadership and advice to the President, President-Elect, the Board and the Chapter.
Bio: Sandy is a Development Services Analyst with the University of Nebraska Foundation and has been an ASTD member since November 2005. She received her BS in Information Systems Management from Doane College and is currently pursuing an MS in Leadership through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This is her first position in leadership with ASTD-Lincoln.
She have been with the UN Foundation since March 2004. Prior to that, she worked in the Health Care industry for approximately 20 years and in Software Consulting for three years. Her job responsibilities at the Foundation include business practice analysis related to Prospect Management and Honor Clubs, assisting with data integrity and maintenance of the centralized database and report development for these systems. She has a diverse background including Accounting, HR Management and IT Analyst. Sandy has been a Project Manager for several software conversions/implementations and has assisted with staff training responsibilities for the software. She is currently assisting with software training at the Foundation and is involved in a review of staff competencies and the new employee orientation program.
General Responsibilities: Oversee all communication goals, strategies, tools, and mechanisms including, but not limited to, print and electronic marketing correspondence and the chapter web site. Ensure all chapter communications adheres to ASTD’s identity guidelines.
Bio: David has been active in the Training and Development profession since 1998. His area of expertise is developing training programs and curriculum either for classroom or web-based education. David’s previous experiences allowed him to travel North America and Germany to develop and conduct training programs for his customers. His leadership and management skills have led teams to be listed in Training Magazine’s Top 125 for seven years.
You can find David during his time away from work enjoying time with his wife Lynn and their two boys Mitchell and Spencer.
After 4 ½ years of Active duty in the US Army, stationed in Missouri, Texas and South Korea, he continued on to the Nebraska National Guard while attending Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska. David received his Associates Of Applied Science degree in Electromechanical Technology in July 1994.
General Responsibilities: Communicate Chapter activities to members and the community at large through announcements, events, press releases, etc. Promote recognition of and respect for the chapter and its membership within the Lincoln and Nebraska business communities.

Elizabeth (Betsy) Howe

General Responsibilities: Oversee membership goals, strategies, and activities that will assist the Chapter in recruiting new members and retaining current members. Provide membership services and promote enthusiasm within the Membership Committee and the membership at large.
Bio: Betsy has been involved in training and development for well over 25 years, first as manager of a small business and more recently as Adjunct Instructor and Safety Specialist. She has worked extensively with technology since the mid 1980's. She has completed the ASTD E-Learning Certificate and put that knowledge to work through UNL Environmental Health & Safety online course development and support.
In 2010 the Membership Committee is expanding the scope of the PALs program to provide more comprehensive on-boarding throughout the first year of ASTD-Lincoln membership. We continue to support efforts to educate membership on the benefits of ASTD national. We are eager to determine and accommodate the involvement desires of membership and will be working hard to pair organizational needs large and small with the member who has passion and strength in the area of need.
ASTD is my professional 'home.' I value the learning experiences provided by ASTD-Lincoln regularly and access to expertise worldwide through the national ASTD organization. Members of the Lincoln chapter and the SIG groups are always available to share information and expertise should the need for consultation arise. I value the network of colleagues and friends I have made through ASTD-Lincoln.
Betsy has an MBA with an MIS emphasis from University of South Dakota and a BS in Food Science and Technology from Michigan State University.
General Responsibilities: Actively recruit new members from the Actively recruit new members from the Lincoln and surrounding communities. Implement follow-up with meeting guests , new members and current members through surveys and other means, to ensure needs are met at all levels of membership. Promote energy and enthusiasm within the membership through Member Education and other initiatives.
Bio: Don has worked for Linweld for 23 years in a number of positions. Currently he is a Specialty Gas Technologist, Facility Trainer, and Quality Coordinator. He is Six Sigma Green Belt Certified. He is also a volunteer ESL tutor. He has been married for 18 years and has 2 daughters. In his spare time, Don enjoys attending his youngest daughter's soccer games.
Since joining the ASTD-Lincoln chapter in 2007, Don has served on the "Big Event" Committee and helped with ASTD's TV program "Training Now". Don says he has become a more confident trainer, and he has learned many new things by attending the monthly meetings and workshops.
His goals are to continue to grow and learn to be a more effective trainer. He hopes to promote training and development not just in the workplace but where ever it is needed or desired.
General Responsibilities: Work closely with Director of Recruiting. Facilitate ‘onboarding ‘ to mentor new members and foster connections through the member’s first year with ASTD-Lincoln. Emphasis with this position is on ‘personal touch’ and ‘connections’ that lead to active engagement and member involvement. Promote energy and enthusiasm within the membership at large.
Bio: Lora has been teaching for 15 years at Lincoln School of Commerce/Hamilton College/Kaplan University. As Department Chair for much of that time, she called on the change management training through ASTD monthly programs to aid in the many transitions that have taken place in the school. She also utilizes the ideas from all the programs in her business administration classes.
Lora has a Political Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and an MBA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Doug Burks

General Responsibilities: Facilitate new and veteran member volunteerism within the Chapter at various levels of involvement. Link volunteer resources to the needs of the various committees, SIGs and Chapter events. Promote energy and enthusiasm for participation.
Bio: A native of Amarillo, Texas, Doug enlisted in the Navy in 1980 and attended basic training in San Diego, California. After completing Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut, reported aboard his first command, the submarine USS Sand Lance (SSN 660). At the end of the first four year enlistment, Doug elected to be an active Reservist in Tyler, Texas. While assigned to the Reserve Unit, Doug taught basic supply, naval history, and naval operations classes. Doug also performed duties as assistant emergency medical technician with the City of Tyler Ambulance Services. Six months later, Doug applied for and was accepted to return to active duty retaining the rate of Hospitalman Second.
For twelve years, he served several tours at sea, including as the Medical Department Representative aboard the submarine USS Toledo (SSN 769) during the construction phase and beyond. In September 1997, he attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and upon completion, in December, he reported as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor, Naval Medical Clinic, Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia. After two years in Albany, Doug would return to sea duty one more time as the Medical and Dental Division Officer on board the amphibious assault ship USS Cleveland (LPD 13) home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.
Doug retired after twenty-three years active naval service in September 2003. His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (3 gold stars), Navy Achievement Medal (1 gold star), Good Conduct Medal (4 bronze stars), and various service and campaign awards.
Currently Doug is working with Southeast Community College’s Specialized Training Department as a consultant on a Lincoln Public Schools adult education project. He attends Doane College, Lincoln campus as a senior. He anticipates graduating in May 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Communications. He is married to the former and Lincoln native Cynthia “Sam” Harris for over twenty-seven years. They have two grown children; Robert a Marine, and Krista a new mommy, and five grandchildren.

Bio: Kevin is the Organizational Training and Education Specialist for Continuum EAP and an Adjunct Instructor in Speech Communication, Theatre and Public Relations at Doane College-Lincoln.
Kevin has a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After a brief tenure teaching in the public schools, Kevin enjoyed a career in the entertainment field touring first, as a member of Class Acts (an improvisational comedy troupe) then nationally as a stand-up comedian highlighted by taped appearances on HBO and Comedy Central. Kevin has developed and maintains over 40 different soft skills and management training topics for Continuum. He is certified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Kevin also maintains the Continuum EAP website.
Kevin is a die hard Chicago White Sox fan (check his license plates and ask to see his tattoo). He and his wife Teri have 3 children: Lucas, Isabella and Olivia.

Bio: Marguerite works for Southeast Community College in the Customized Training Services Division. Her primary function is to provide customized training for businesses and organizations and to educate businesses about local grant opportunities available for training. She received her BS in Business from UNL and has over 10 years experience in Human Resources and Training and Development.
General Responsibilities: Provides membership educational resources, educates membership on certification/competency model, and supervises student chapter.
Bio: Keith is a 17-year veteran of corporate training, with 20+ years of experience in education. He has facilitated learning for nearly 2200 employees in sales, customer service, and process training, in industries from data communications to insurance. His peers honored him in 1999 as Member of the Year Award for the Nebraska Chapter of ASTD for innovation and leadership of the Trainer’s Institute program. He’s been published in Creative Training Techniques newsletter and The Training and Performance Sourcebook. He received his Master’s Degree in Adult Learning, Performance and Development from Drake University in Des Moines, IA, and is certified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
General Responsibilities: Responsible for educating members on different facets of the competency model, i.e., informing members at monthly programs, literature reviews, visually displaying model at meetings, etc.
Bio: Janelle is a Medical- Surgical RN by trade; she has been working in the Education- Staff Development for the last 8 years, 6 of these years was at Saint Elizabeth in their Education Department and the last two have been in the Education Department at the Nebraska Community Bloodbank as the Education Director. “It has been both a challenge and fun to develop an education department from scratch at the Nebraska Community Bloodbank.” Janelle’s biggest challenge is developing a competency assessment for employees, which she feels her position on the board will help in that development.
Janelle received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2005 from Nebraska Wesleyan and her Master’s of Science in Nursing with emphasis in Administration and Management in 2008 from Norwich University.
Janelle has been an ASTD member for 2 years, serving for the first time on the board.
General Responsibilities: Maintain accurate financial records and ensure the Chapter’s sound financial status. Advise the leadership on fiscal policy.
Bio: Jane joined Union Bank & Trust Company as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter in February 2003 after serving four years as a Mortgage Loan Processor for Community Mortgage Company and TierOne Bank. Prior to that she served nine years in real estate sales as an Associate Broker for Woods Bros. Realty, Inc. Jane began serving Union Bank’s Mortgage Loans Department as Managing Officer of Underwriting in October 2005 and Co-manager of Operations in October 2006. In addition to serving as Director of Recruiting for the ASTD-Lincoln Board of Directors, she is a member of the Education Committee for the Nebraska Mortgage Association (NMA) Board of Directors. Jane is certified in the use of the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI®) personality assessment and is working toward becoming a Master Practitioner. She continues to work towards developing proficient consulting skills in the area of organizational development with a specialization in leadership. When Jane is not working or studying (which is not often) she enjoys spending time at home with her three dogs, Molly, George and Isabella Jane.
Jane's main goal is to find ways to add value to ASTD-Lincoln using her top two core values of knowledge and integrity. She hopes her experience and education will bring additional value to ASTD-Lincoln and looks forward to learning from other members.
While Jane enjoys being innovative she finds it challenging to execute her ideas effectively. She hopes to align herself with members who can help her execute innovative ideas and afford her the opportunity to learn more effective execution skills
Bio: Glenda Hinz, Virtual Assistant and Owner of HINZtime Virtual Assistance, offers expertise in administrative and marketing support for solopreneurs and membership-based organizations. Glenda began providing secretarial services as an independent contractor under the name Hinz Word Processing Service in 1978. Today, she provides much more than word processing in a professional, solutions-oriented business environment. Although she has worked extensively for small businesses, associations and educational organizations, her skills and services are adaptable to any industry, in any location worldwide. With over 25 years as a self-employed administrative professional, Glenda provides exceptional secretarial and organizational skills, with relentless attention to detail, accuracy, and confident efficiency.
Glenda serves as secretary of the Women Business Owners Network (WBON) in Lincoln. She is also a member of the International Association of Virtual Office Assistants (IAVOA), the International Women’s Chamber of Commerce (IVWCC), and the Alliance for Virtual Business. She is a committed supporter of women-owned and home-based businesses.
She has been serving with ASTD since 1993.
