General Responsibilities: Provide leadership and direction to the Board and Membership.
Bio: Ranelle is the Technology Training Services Manager with UNL Information Services Instructional Technology Group where she provides end-user computer training and support for the faculty/staff of UNL. Before coming to UNL in August 2007, Ranelle gained her experience in the training field working at New Horizons Computer Learning Center. While there, her mentor introduced her to ASTD in 1996.
Serving as the 2008 Lincoln Chapter President, Ranelle introduced the new theme "Discover your network. Develop yourself." You can look for new networking and professional development programs this year. If you you any ideas to add or improve services to our members, please let her know.
Ranelle received her BS in Business Administration from UNL in August 1992. As an ASTD member, she has volunteered with the Chapter in may ways until 2005 when she served as the Director of Web site, then as the 2006 Vice President of Communication and as the 2007 President Elect. She is very proud to have helped get the online registration set up for our membership. Ranelle also serves on the Board of Directors for the University Association for Administrative Development (UAAD) at UNL as the Communications Committee Chair. Ranelle previously served on the Board of Directors for the UNL Band Alumni Association, Inc. from 1995-2005 as the Vice President and General Manager/Secretary. She is still an active member of the organization.
General Responsibilities: Provide leadership and direction to the Chapter. Prepare for the Presidency by participating in board meetings, familiarizing oneself with the operating structure of the Chapter and assisting the President.
Bio: Sandy is a Development Services Analyst with the University of Nebraska Foundation and has been an ASTD member since November 2005. She received her BS in Information Systems Management from Doane College and is currently pursuing an MS in Leadership through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This is her first position in leadership with ASTD-Lincoln.
She have been with the UN Foundation since March 2004. Prior to that, she worked in the Health Care industry for approximately 20 years and in Software Consulting for three years. Her job responsibilities at the Foundation include business practice analysis related to Prospect Management and Honor Clubs, assisting with data integrity and maintenance of the centralized database and report development for these systems. She has a diverse background including Accounting, HR Management and IT Analyst. Sandy has been a Project Manager for several software conversions/implementations and has assisted with staff training responsibilities for the software. She is currently assisting with software training at the Foundation and is involved in a review of staff competencies and the new employee orientation program.
Michael Merritt

General Responsibilities: Provide leadership and advice to the President, President-Elect, the Board and the Chapter.
Bio: Michael has been involved in Education Technologies for ten years and has specialized in e-Learning for the last three years. At the BryanLGH College of Heath Sciences he was the lead in designing the classroom technologies and he currently serves as the administrator for the e-Learning initiative at The Nebraska Medical Center with approximately 5000+ active learners in there organization.
As President, Michael provided a vision of continued growth, success and national recognition for our chapter. He has served our chapter as the Director of Website, VP of Communications and as the 2006 President Elect. I am actively involved in our chapter as the Director of our Television show, Training NOW!, Co-Chair of the 2006 Big Event, Co-Chair of the Student Chapter, and has served on the big event committee for the past four years.
Michael values the learning experiences and involvement that our "seasoned" chapter members have included him in and is very appreciative of the network of colleagues and friends he has made being an active member in ASTD-Lincoln.
Michael also enjoys consulting with local organizations considering e-Learning as a training delivery method. He was also a member of Leadership Lincoln Class XX.
General Responsibilities: Oversee all communication goals, strategies, tools, and mechanisms including, but not limited to, print and electronic marketing correspondence and the chapter web site. Ensure all chapter communications adheres to ASTD’s identity guidelines.
Bio: Shannon is an independent Ergonomics Consultant and an Ergonomics and Safety Specialist for the University of Nebraska, Department of Environmental Health and Safety with over nine years experience in the safety industry. She is the owner of a consulting company called Desktop Ergonomics, in which she helps employers ensure a healthy office environment by providing ergonomic workstation assessments, employee and supervisor training, and product recommendation. Shannon has a master's degree in Leadership Education, as well as the Advanced Safety Certificate (from National Safety Council) and is a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS).
Shannon has been a member of ASTD-Lincoln for four years.
General Responsibilities: Publish the Chapter’s monthly newsletter, ASTD-Link.
Bio: Lisa is the Director of Career Development at Lincoln Action Program overseeing five programs all designed to priovide low income individuals with the skills needed to achieve and retain quality employment.
The programs include Career Advancement Training, a soft skills program that currently focuses on indivisuals prior to employment, but is expanding to offer training to businesses for existing employees; Small business training; Computer learning lab, offering free computer classes to low income individuals and hoping to expand to offer a place for businesses to send employees for training; Center for Refugees and Immigrants, providing employment services including vocational ESL and Career Advancement Training to Refugees and Immigrants; and YouthBuild a program that provides the opportunity to Youth 16-24 to get the GED and build a house in Lincoln.
Prior to working at Lincoln Action Program Lisa worked at Vatterott College as the Career Services Director and has also provided training to individuals returning from deployment to help them reintegrate back into the community.
Lisa has a Master's in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland.

General Responsibilities: Communicate Chapter activities to members and the community at large through announcements, events, press releases, etc. Promote recognition of and respect for the chapter and its membership within the Lincoln and Nebraska business communities.
General Responsibilities: As Director of Website, the goal of this position is timely and accurate website postings, making our website a valuable tool for membership and an enticing organization to prospective members.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Howe

General Responsibilities: Oversee membership goals, strategies, and activities that will assist the Chapter in recruiting new members and retaining current members. Provide membership services to the membership.
Bio: Betsy has been involved in training and development for well over 25 years, first as Manager of a small business and more recently as Adjunct Instructor and Safety Specialist. She has worked extensively with technology since the mid 1980's. She has completed the ASTD E-Learning Certificate and is working with a team on development and delivery of Environmental Health & Safety online courses for use by the UNL campus community.
Since I've discovered ASTD I feel as if I've truly found a professional 'home.' I value the learning experiences provided by ASTD-Lincoln regularly and acess to the national offerings. Members of the Lincoln chapter and the SIG groups are always available to share information and expertise should the need for consultation arise. I value the network of colleagues and friends I have made through ASTD-Lincoln.
2008 is a transition year for the Membership Committee as we firm up the duties of the new Director of Member Connections board position. We are excited to implement a number of new initiatives in the areas of involvement, mentoring, outreach and networking.

Emphasis with this position is on ‘personal touch’ and ‘connections’ that lead to active engagement and member involvement.
General Responsibilities: Facilitate new and veteran member volunteerism within the Chapter at various levels of involvement. Link volunteer resources to the needs of the various committees, SIGs and Chapter events. Promote energy and enthusiasm for participation.
Bio: Kevin is the Organizational Training and Education Specialist for Continuum EAP where he has developed and maintains a catalog of over 35 topics. He is a qualified user of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, an adjunct instructor in speech communication and theatre at Doane College-Lincoln and a professional comedian/humorist.
Kevin has a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After a brief tenure teaching in the public schools, Kevin enjoyed a career in the entertainment field touring first, as a member of Class Acts (an improvisational comedy troupe) then nationally as a stand-up comedian highlighted by taped appearances on HBO and Comedy Central. Kevin developed his training skills and knowledge of human resources as a Staffing Specialist for Manpower, a Fortune 500 employment service. At Manpower, he trained employees in tangible skills like computer software as well as helping employees develop the intangible skills like leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, workplace safety and customer service. He has also served as an Admissions Representative and Student Advisor at Lincoln School of Commerce (now Hamilton College) helping adult students find degree programs to meet their career goals.
Kevin is joining the ASTD board for the first time since joining ASTD almost five years ago.

Bio: Ron works for Southeast Community College as the Director of Workforce Development and Training Services. His primary function is to provide customized training for businesses and organizations. He is a certified MBTI Trainer.
Ron has been an ASTD member for 10 Years. He previously served as VP of Marketing from 1997-1999.

Bio: Marguerite works for Southeast Community College in the Professional Growth and Customized Training Services Division. Her primary function is to provide customized training for businesses and organizations and to educate businesses about local grant opportunities available for training. She received her BS in Business from UNL and has over 10 years experience in Human Resources and Training and Development.
Marguerite is a returning member to ASTD following some time out of the workforce after the birth of her son. This is her first opportunity serving as a Board Member.

General Responsibilities: Responsible for educating members on different facets of the competency model, i.e., informing members at monthly programs, literature reviews, visually displaying model at meetings, etc.
Bio: Anita is a Senior Training Analyst with Principal Financial Group in Grand Island and has been an ASTD member for three years. Three main areas of Anita's job at Principal Financial Group include employee and leader development and training, volunteer and community involvement liaison for her company, and manager for the support services area. It's a GREAT place to work and she loves her job! She has no personal time because she volunteers in her community but she does make time to play with eight grandkids - McKynna, Kwynn, Corynn, Anthony, Nicholas, Christopher, Elizabeth and Stetson.
Anita hopes to make ASTD-Lincoln members more aware of the ASTD Competency model and to help members understand the importance of certification in the training industry and how it can help us individually and collectively.

Anita has earned the ACS designation (LOMA Society- Associate of Customer Service), DTM (Toastmasters Distinguished Toastmaster), Excellence in Training (Toastmaster) award, HIAA HIA designation (Health Insurance Associate).
General Responsibilities: Maintain accurate financial records and ensure the Chapter’s sound financial status. Advise the leadership on fiscal policy.
Bio: Anissa has been an ASTD member since January 2005. A Doane College graduate, Anissa has worked for Ameritas Group Dental and Eye Care for nearly five years. Her current title is Group Sales Technical Trainer. Prior to that, she worked in the Personnel Office for the State of Nebraska. She is licensed with the Nebraska Department of Insurance to sell business, and is currently pursing her FLMI designation.
AS VP of Finance, she will actively participate in the board's mission while taking care of budgetary and fiscal concerns. "I look forward to becoming more involved in ASTD and getting to know the Board and Members better."
Besides working with ASTD, Anissa is also interested in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and enjoys contributing to the Lincoln City Mission.
Bio: Glenda Hinz, Virtual Assistant and Owner of HINZtime Virtual Assistance, offers expertise in administrative and marketing support for solopreneurs and membership-based organizations. Glenda began providing secretarial services as an independent contractor under the name Hinz Word Processing Service in 1978. Today, she provides much more than word processing in a professional, solutions-oriented business environment. Although she has worked extensively for small businesses, associations and educational organizations, her skills and services are adaptable to any industry, in any location worldwide. With over 25 years as a self-employed administrative professional, Glenda provides exceptional secretarial and organizational skills, with relentless attention to detail, accuracy, and confident efficiency.
Glenda serves as secretary of the Women Business Owners Network (WBON) in Lincoln. She is also a member of the International Association of Virtual Office Assistants (IAVOA), the International Women’s Chamber of Commerce (IVWCC), and the Alliance for Virtual Business. She is a committed supporter of women-owned and home-based businesses.
She has been serving with ASTD since 1993.
